PRESS RELEASE
Heimstaden is deepening its social responsibility by initiating a collaboration with Skåne Stadsmission within the framework of Barns Bostad Först. The collaboration enables a safe and long-term housing solution for families with children who are in a homeless situation.
Heimstaden works to build inclusive and prosperous local communities and to solve societal challenges such as housing shortage, exclusion and insecurity. The collaboration with Skåne Stadsmission is in line with this ambition.
Skåne Stadsmission identifies and supports structurally homeless families with children in the process of reaching a lasting and independent housing solution with a first-hand contract. In order to be able to run this initiative, Skåne Stadsmission needs support from various property owners.
The collaboration is based on the Children’s Housing First model, developed by Skåne City Mission and Save the Children. The model aims to lower the thresholds to the housing market for structurally homeless families with children.
– We are keen to contribute to positive social development and support individuals who, for various reasons, have difficulty finding a home. In this collaboration, we are not only providing a family with children with a roof over their heads, but also a first-hand contract and the opportunity for an independent life in Malmö, says Annicka Jörgensen, Sustainability Manager at Heimstaden Sweden.
– Everything from education to social networks and meaningful leisure time is affected when a child does not have a permanent home. We are therefore pleased that Heimstaden wants to join hands with us and contribute to a more humane housing market by supporting Barns Bostad Först, says Rakel Thunander, Unit Manager, Skåne Stadsmission.
Skåne Stadsmission is responsible for recruiting, selecting and matching families with children, and offers needs-based support to families who receive an apartment within the Children’s Housing First model. The family also receives basic needs support through, for example, clothing and shoes, and the opportunity to buy subsidized food at Skåne Stadsmission’s social food store.
